Once I started writing an essay about the Triforce in literature. It's not finished, but I find it fairly amusing regardless. Read on, homies!

The Triforce is, as a literary motif, a very basic principle. Put quite simply, you have three parts: one who desires the power to conquer, one who desires the courage to become itself, and one who desires the wisdom to balance the other two.

Power knows exactly what it wants, but always fall short of its goal of reigning supreme. Now, it might not want to literally take over, but it does want to at least be considered an expert in its area of expertise. Power is usually an overachiever, blindly following its goals often at the expense of its compatriots. It seldom meets these goals, however, as it is undone by either its own greed or the efforts of Courage.

Courage itself similarly has only one goal: it wishes to become its own person and make its mark on the world. Do not confuse this with Power, however; Power is fully aware of its goals and what it needs to do to achieve them, while Courage only has a vague concept of being recognized for achieving something great. Unfortunately, it rarely has the ability to focus on its own goals; far more often it bends to the needs and wishes of those around it, becoming little more than a pawn in a larger system.

Power and Courage are, as you may have guessed, diametrically opposed. Power acts for itself, Courage acts for others. This is not to say that either is good or evil, just that they are opposite each other. They do battle until Courage manages to achieve something for itself and Power learns that its goals are unnecessary, or alternatively until Courage slays Power to stop its rampant selfishness. Sometimes, a Courage is seen undoing itself by never achieving its goal of self-realization, thus allowing Power to accomplish its goals, though this is much rarer.

The third part of this equation is Wisdom. Now Wisdom is a bit different in that it does not seek out its own goals, but rather a balance between Power and Courage, whatever that may be. It seeks the knowledge to make the two stop their struggle with each other, either through neutrality or by aligning itself with one or the other of them. Despite the specificity and facility of this goal, seldom does it have any effect. More often than not, Wisdom must watch helplessly on the sidelines while the two others have at each other.

This was originally going to be a Tumblr post, but it turned into a novel so it prompted me to remember that I have this thing. Click for a fairly long read. :\

A lot of my friends seem to be in various states of crazy lately, and I began to wonder why I myself have felt so normal these past few months. Then, today, I drew something that surprised myself: I drew my characters snapping and doing something deranged. Then I pulled back and looked at what I had just drawn, and I surprised myself. But then I realized what the subject of the drawing was: my own characters. Then something in my head clicked.
As most of you know (as I can't seem to shut up about it), I've been going through a kind of creative block for a while now, and most of what I have produced has been fan art and the like. Aha! A pattern emerges! Following this train of thought, I realized that the two things I have been the most into during this period are Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII, things which I praise mostly for their crazy mindfuckery. Other games that I've played recently are fun, have nice characters, and follow really neat plot lines but just don't seem to grab me the same way for whatever reason. I'll play them and enjoy them and occasionally scribble some fandoodles but most of my time and thought goes into untangling those two aforementioned games.

After this revelation, I decided to try and remember the time within the last year that I have been most prolific in developing my own ideas, and it was at this point I realized that that time was the week I spent in the hospital in February, staring at a static TV screen.
My creativity is my insanity. When I'm really gone, it manifests itself into stories and characters. When it's less extreme, it just latches on to something nearby that shares its same properties, generally my own fears and obsessions. When it's sleeping, I am unable to attach any deep thought to any one subject, and my ability to make stories and art sleeps too.

I think I've finally found the source of my art block, and now I'm not sure if I want my creativity back.

This is vague enough that I'm not going to count it a spoiler. After the jump there are a couple though, so watch out if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

AQUA IS SUCH A SAD CHARACTER OH MY GOD. I mean, I guess I should've figured from her theme song, but Jesus. Her story is basically about her figuring out that the person she most wants to believe in isn't strong enough to be trusted, and the person she most wants to protect is beyond her help. Fuck, Nomura. Make me bawl my eyes out why don't you.

See, I like it when people have random migraines that cause them to grab their heads, especially if they collapse afterwards. See, Kingdom Hearts is good at delivering just that. I like that a lot. Also Terranort's a dick but I liked him in the secret ending.

FUNFACT: I used so many fucking effects on this layer to try and disguise the fact that I made the background like supersaturated technicolor while still retaining Terra's ridiculously muted outfit. Fun with ~~Photoshop~~ SAI!

Ventus is the most adorable character ever, and Vanitas is the most terrifying. Or course they're the same thing. Also, as old as the "THE NEW CHARACTER IS ACTUALLY SORA" plot twist is getting, Vanitas did actually pull it off. With Xion it was very subtle how they led up to it, so that one worked because it came completely out the left field, but with Vanitas they'd actually been leading up to it the whole time through his VA and theme song and stuff. I think what made it work was that, when they finally unmasked him, you were immediately made full aware that this character was not the Sora you know and love, and that he was actually more or less a perversion of everything you'd held sacred up until that point. SORA'S FACE SHOULDN'T DO THAT AUGHHHHH

I was reading the Wild Mass Guessing article on TV Tropes for Kingdom Hearts, and like the last entry on there or something like that was the idea that, when he was a human and she was little, Lea had babysat Kairi, and that that was why he was so nice to Xion and Naminé and why he initially went for a rather nice-guy approach (for him, anyway) when he went to kidnap Kairi in KH2. I dunno, I thought it was sweet. (also marvel in my ability to make a sentence go on way longer than it needs to)

I only vaguely recall drawing this. AND YEAH SO I DO KNOW WHAT NOMURA AND SAKAGUCHI LOOK LIKE OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD Y'ALL'S JEALOUS. Had to look up Hashimoto, though. He had funny hair for a while there.

Another thing I only vaguely recall drawing. I was sleepy, so I drew someone sleeping rather than actually doing so myself. I'm counterproductive.

So! I don't have any art to post right now because I suck. (Well, I am working on an actual buffer for BFK that I am very happy about, but you don't get to see that.) I have, however, been listening to a disproportionate amount of nerd music on Youtube. I've been into cellos, violins, and pianos lately. ANY OF THAT APPEAL TO YOU??? Hit the jump then. Man, I was reading some feminist (the good kind) rants about the treatment of female characters the other day and I started feeling all ragey and stuff. (links for everybody yey) This then triggered some serious girly fanart sessions, y'all.

I think Aerith and Tifa would be awesome bros. I also realize that girls generally aren't 'bros', but as there is no real female equivalent it'll have to do. /bitchy feminist

AQUAAAAAAA seriously I'm so excited for her. A girl character who can actually function? In Kingdom Hearts? BLASPHEMY! Added to that is the fact that she seems to be the strongest out of her little trio there. This better be paving the way for some awesome Kairi action come next game, if my pet theories hold true.

So, I finally decided to jump on the FF7 bandwagon nearly 13 years after its release. This causes me to be painfully aware of how right all the dumb fangirls and nerdguys are, as this game is SO AWESOME AUGH I WANNA KILL MYSELF. The game itself is pretty much a deconstruction of RPGs, which somehow (thankfully) I had managed to play many of these before I got my hands on this one, both older Final Fantasies and just general RPGs with magical heroes and the like. C'est wunderbar!

Goddamn I love Reno. I mean, sure this is unsurprising as I love Axel from KH and he's just an expy of Reno (Nomura even said so) but whatever. Especially him and Rude together. YEAH BROMANCE

I mean hell Cid is a captain or whatnot. He should've been the leader from the start!

In a similar vein, here we have a caged Hoshi. I was reading the Buggy arc of One Piece and at some point Luffy ended up in a cage. As usual, I over-analyzed it and found that since I broke my ankle I've pretty much been stuck in a cage myself. What with the five days in a hospital room, and then even after I got home I'm still pretty contained. At least my friends visit me and I have a stable internet connection.

Somehow, I struggled through them. I especially enjoyed the characters standing around crosseyed in the background for entire scenes.

Yes. Chapter 251 is my favorite, as well as 287 KZB. And 299 KZB.

Sweet Jesus who would willingly subject themselves to the dub? The only episode out of the entire 64-episode saga that doesn't make me cringe is ep 50. With Ren's (Len's?) epic freakout scene and the .hack//SIGN music in the background.

I love Anna, truth be told.

So like, I go to school. I take an art class. In this art class, I am required to keep a class-related sketchbook. (technically I'm also supposed to draw non-class-related stuff in it, but that's lame) This being said, there's some stuff in it. Here's the only stuff in it that I don't hate so far.

I was doing a still life of a pineapple in monochromatic chalk. It was supposed to be a refined still life. I hate refined things, and I hate still lives. This was not a fun project.

A study I did of said still life, trying to get the baic flow and some values and such down. Not surprisingly, I like this a lot better than the finished product. I might upload that one day. Maybe....
